A reason to pick up your camera
The Photo Dispatch is a monthly letter for people who want to photograph more often. Each issue arrives by post with a letter, a 6 × 4 inch photographic print and a sealed mission card. The letter gives you something to think about; the mission gives you something to do with your camera.
You can read the letter and look at the print before you open the mission. Once you do, you’ll find a specific photography brief with enough direction to get started and room to make your own choices. There’s also a five-minute exercise on the back of the card for a day when that’s all the time you have.
The missions are designed for ordinary life. You might make one part of a journey you were already taking, or spend longer looking at something close to home. You don’t need a particular camera, previous experience or a place that looks impressive. A phone is fine. What matters is taking the time to make the photograph rather than walking past it.
There’s nothing to submit and no need to catch up with earlier issues. You can take several photographs and choose one later, put the card aside until you have time, or return to a mission more than once. The Photo Dispatch is there to give you a starting point - not another deadline.
